The Sixties Scoop was a dark chapter in Canadian history when thousands of Indigenous children were taken from their families and placed in non-Indigenous homes. This practice, which was carried out by the Canadian government and child welfare agencies, was based on the racist belief that Indigenous families were unfit to raise their children. As a result, many Indigenous children were forcibly removed from their homes and communities and placed in foster care or adopted by non-Indigenous families.

Sara Breaker's powerful memoir, The Sixties Scoop, tells the story of her own experience as a survivor of this tragedy. Breaker was taken from her family at the age of four and placed in a non-Indigenous foster home. She faced racism and discrimination throughout her childhood, and she struggled to find her place in the world. Despite the challenges she faced, Breaker eventually found her way back to her Indigenous community and culture. Her memoir is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of family and community.
