In 1774, Thomson was elected secretary of the Continental Congress. He served in this position for the duration of the American Revolution, and he played a key role in the drafting of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation.

After the war, Thomson continued to serve the new nation. He was appointed secretary of the Board of War and Ordnance, and he later served as commissioner of the Land Office.

Bible Translation

In addition to his political career, Thomson was also a noted Bible scholar. He was a member of the committee that produced the first American edition of the Bible, and he later translated the Bible into Greek.

Thomson's Bible translation was a major accomplishment, and it is still used by scholars today. He was a master of the Greek language, and his translation is both accurate and elegant.
